Artificial Radio Hour with Rev. Dr. Dr. Phill Part 27

Hey hey!

No theme this week, really. Mostly a low-effort podcast with some covers, and some live rant/jams from the stage at the 19X-Day Drill, in honor of 20X-Day which is on Wednesday.

The first one is by Rev. Ivan Stang (the Sacred Scribe of the Church of the Subgenius) and the second one is by Rev. Argus Faux.

According to the Church of the SubGenius, the world will end in a fiery invasion by aliens from Planet X on July 5, 1998. (All dues-paying SubGenii will be ruptured up in the Escape Saucers of the Pleasure Gods/Goddesses.) The fact that this hasn't happened yet is merely an indication that it isn't actually 1998 yet.

There are a couple of fun covers this week. Lesley Gore's awesome version of AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" is from a CD called When Pigs Fly featuring oddball covers (Songs You Never Thought You'd Hear). The Shonen Knife version of Top Of The World is from the same place as the Sonic Youth cover (Superstar) from a few weeks ago. There was a tribute album called If I Were A Carpenter released in 1994 that included both of those covers.

Petra Haden recorded a version of The Who's album The Who Sell Out that is pretty fantastic.

Shape of Things to Come by "Max Frost & The Troopers" is from a 1968 movie called Wild In The Streets which was about a youth revolution brought about by the lowering of the voting age to 15. Max Frost was the 15-year-old rock star who became president. I've never seen it, but the music is pretty great.

There are also a couple of movie clips that are taken from that same episode of The Hour Of Slack.

I'll talk to you folks next week, okay?

Enjoy!
