Artificial Radio Hour with Rev. Dr. Dr. Phill Part 43b

<spooky voice>
Greetings, everyone!
</spooky voice>

Rolling on into another scary HALLOWEEK podcast, this one has a bit of a synth theme happening.

TRS-80 is the name of a computer sold at Radio Shack, but also a band. This is a cover of a song by Ministry.

I'm not sure why there are four of them, the band was a trio.
The Comateens were a New York-based new wave band. At least half of them are wearing sunglasses in nearly every photo I could find. Covering the Munsters theme fits a common 20-year nostalgia cycle, although it's a bit early. They were cutting-edge I guess.

Black Sabbath has (have?) lots of scary songs, but come on, this one has "grave" right in the title.

Red Right Hand might seem an obvious choice to deep Nick Cave fans, but I'm not familiar enough with his catalog to dig up the scarier gems. Not yet, at least.

Homeless In Heathrow is not a scary song. The lyrics aren't scary. The music isn't particularly scary. Fartbarf is a fun band. They do wear classic Halloween masks, but they're not scary.

This song is in the show just so I can post this video.

At first I didn't remember this early David Bowie song, but it's very creepy!

MX-80 were on Ralph Records, the label that The Residents are on. There's lots of weird stuff on that label. This is a cover of John Carpenter's theme to his 1977 slasher pic Halloween.

I've played Roky Erickson before, he's great. The lyrics may sound a bit schizophrenic, but that's because Roky has schizophrenia. The Electro-Convulsive Therapy may have also crossed a wire or two.

"Incubus" by Radio Werewolf is so straight-faced I think it may be a joke. They were a real provocative band, often seen with Satanic or Nazi imagerey. It got them publicity and appearences on Geraldo and Wally George as "degenerate rock stars" so I guess it worked. It still may have been a joke.

Another Nick Cave song at the end, reminding us that it isn't really the end! I'll be back tomorrow, come on by!

Until then, enjoy!
